Types of Induction Furnace

Based on Power Frequency:

1. Medium frequency furnace

The power frequency range of the medium frequency induction melting furnace is between 150 Hz and 10,000 Hz, which is suitable for large-scale smelting processes of small and medium-sized steel companies. This kind of smelting furnace provides large capacity and power and is suitable for large-scale metal smelting needs.

2. Low frequency furnace

The power supply frequency of low-frequency induction melting furnaces is usually below 150 Hz. It is mainly suitable for large-scale smelting production of special steel and special alloys by large steel companies. Although the heating rate may be relatively slow, it has lower energy costs and is more cost-effective for large-scale melting.

3. High frequency furnace

The power frequency of high-frequency induction melting furnaces is usually above 10,000 Hz. This type of smelting furnace is mainly used for the smelting of cast iron, high-strength steel, and alloy cast iron, as well as the smelting of non-ferrous metals. Its high frequency allows for fast heating and is suitable for metals that require rapid melting and precise control.

4. Ultra high frequency furnace

The power frequency of UHF induction melting furnaces is usually above 10,000 Hz or even higher. This type of furnace is suitable for specific metal smelting processes that require extremely high heating speed and precision. UHF furnaces provide faster heating and higher energy density, making them useful in certain high-precision melting processes.

5. Industrial frequency furnace

The power frequency of industrial frequency induction melting furnace is generally 50 Hz or 60 Hz. This kind of smelting furnace is usually suitable for small-scale or laboratory-level smelting of special steels and special alloys. Its lower capacity is suitable for small-scale production and laboratory research, providing metal-specific melting and heating solutions.

types of induction furnace

Based on Usage:

1. Induction melting furnace

This type of induction furnace is specially designed for melting or keeping materials warm and bringing them to a liquid state. This kind of furnace is widely used in metal smelting, special alloy preparation and other fields. Whether it is metals such as iron, steel, copper, or special metal alloys, induction melting furnaces can provide efficient and precise heating to achieve the purpose of melting.

2. Induction heating furnace

This type of induction furnace is mainly used for the heating process of materials, including overall uniform heating, surface heating or local heating. They can be used in metal processing, heat treatment, welding and other industrial fields. Induction heating equipment can accurately control the heating area and temperature through the principle of electromagnetic induction, making it an efficient heating tool. These devices are not only suitable for metal, but can also be used for heat treatment of other materials such as plastics, glass, etc.

3. Arc induction furnace

An arc induction furnace is a device that combines arc heating and induction heating. It utilizes the high temperature generated by the arc and the characteristics of induction heating, and can be used for metal smelting and heat treatment. This kind of furnace is suitable for high-temperature smelting and the preparation of special alloys. It has the characteristics of fast heating speed, low energy consumption and easy operation. Therefore, in the purpose classification, the arc induction furnace can be used as a special induction heating equipment.

4. Vacuum furnace

A vacuum furnace is a device for heating and processing in an oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment. They are often used in heat treatment, sintering, alloy preparation and other processes to improve the characteristics and quality of materials by removing or reducing oxygen, gas or other impurities. In the industrial field, vacuum furnaces are usually used for high-temperature processing of metals, ceramics, alloys and other materials. Therefore, vacuum furnaces can be classified as special-purpose heating equipment.

Based on Material:

1. Metal induction melting furnace

used for the smelting of metals (such as iron, copper, aluminum, etc.), widely used in metal smelting and casting industries.

2. Non-metallic induction melting furnace

used for heating or melting non-metallic materials (such as glass, plastic, etc.), suitable for special processes and material processing.

Based on Heating Method and Smelting Process:

1. Intermittent induction melting furnace

suitable for discontinuous, small-batch melting processes, commonly used in laboratories or small-scale production.

2. Continuous induction melting furnace

used for continuous, large-scale smelting production, capable of continuing the smelting process.

Based on Equipment Structure and Size:

1. Small induction melting furnace

used for small-scale testing, research or small-scale production, usually with smaller capacity.

2. Large induction melting furnace

used for large-scale melting in industrial production, with larger capacity and higher power, suitable for large-volume metal processing.
