SCR thyristor is a semiconductor device used to control current. The full name of SCR is silicon controlled rectifier, also known as thyristor.
Like diodes, SCRs only allow current to flow in one direction. It rectifies alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) when triggered.
Unlike a diode, an SCR can be turned on and off by applying a small current to its gate terminal. This makes it a controllable switch.
